Hockey Training Camps: Summer Hockey Goalie Instruction and Training

Off-Ice Program

Jon Elkin's Goalie Schools has a reputation of challenging and successfully developing goaltenders of many different age and skill levels. This is achieved by offering a number of different on-ice programs and groupings. The school is bringing this philosophy to its off-ice program.

Option #1: Elite Dryland Training

Off-ice conditioning is a crucial component to successful goaltending. If one's goal is to play high level hockey, he/she must take his/her off-ice training very seriously. The elite dryland program is the highest level training available to a hockey player anywhere. It is a 5-day program (1.5 hours/day) conducted by Mind To Muscle utilizing both their gym facility at the arena as well as the fields outside. Jon sends a number of his professional, Major Junior A and Division 1 college goalies to train with Mind To Muscle each summer. They train many other NHL, Major Junior A and NCAA players as well.

Participants must be 13 years of age or older and play high-level hockey. They should also be on a proper fitness program for 6-8 weeks leading up to the goalie school. Please call the office for more information and to determine if this program is suitable for you.

Those choosing the Elite Dryland program must be prepared to pay special attention to their daily rest, nutrition and hydration needs. Program focuses on: weight training, power training, total body strength training, explosive lateral movement, plyometrics, quick feet, core strength, agility, balance, coordination, aerobic conditioning, anaerobic conditioning, dynamic warm-ups, dynamic flexibility and proper nutrition. Cost (To be added to the on-ice program fee): $150.

Option #2: Regular Dryland Training

These are daily sessions conducted by the goalie school's own staff that is suitable for all age and skill levels. The workouts are tough and challenging but do not incorporate the training gym. Program focuses on: explosive lateral movement, quick feet, plyometrics, core strength, some strength training, agility, balance, coordination, aerobic conditioning, anaerobic conditioning, dynamic warm-ups and dynamic flexibility. Cost: included in the ice program fee (no extra cost).
