Binner vs Murray
Jordan Binnington and Matt Murray treated the fans in Soo St. Marie to a goalie duel Wednesday night. The Owen Sound Attack entered the game up 2-1 in the best of seven first round OHL playoff series. The saves were plentyful and spectacular. In the end someone had to lose. With 42 seconds left in the first overtime, Ryan Sproul, who has the best shot in the league, fired a slap shot from the high slot beating Binnington and snapping a scorless tie for a 1-0 Soo Greyhounds victory. Jordan had made 3 point blank saves in a row, but couldn't stop the 4th one which was a bullet.
The series is tied at two games a piece and will resume Friday night in Owen Sound. "Binner" stopped 41 of 42 shots and was named the 2nd star while Murray, who was heroic in overtime, made all 36 saves that he faced and was the first star. Both Murray and Binnington were 3rd round NHL draft picks. Binnington, 19, has already signed with the St. Louis Blues. Murray, 18, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In other OHL playoff action, Tyson Teichmann has stopped 56 of the last 59 shots he's faced over the last two games for the extreme underdog, Mississauga Steelheads. They tied their series, versus the Belleville Bulls, 2-2 Monday night.
