Jason Missaien of the Peterborough Petes put on a remarkable performance on Sunday in the second game of the first round playoff series against heavily favorite, the Brampton Battalion.
It was literally a shooting gallery. The ice was tilted towards the Petes' zone. In the first period Brampton outshot the Petes 24-2 but Peterborough still managed to escape the period tied 1-1.
"Mish" always seemed to be in front of the puck making point blank after point blank save.
The kid battled hard all game making 59 saves and managing to help his team get to overtime despite being outshot 63-13.
When a goalie helps his team hang in long enough, he gives them a chance to pull off an upset; that's true leadership from behind!
Unfortunately, Peterborough couldn't capitalize on the strong performance between the pipes and succumbed 5-4 on a giveaway at the blueline. Brampton's top guns came down on Missaien 2 on 1; a nice pass across and a shot to the top shelf ended the game and put the Battalion up 2-0 in the best of seven series.
Brampton fired a playoff record 64 shots on goal and gave up the fewest ever in their playoff history - 13.
