Murray vs Blackwood

Thursday night was a goalie duel between Veteran OHLer Matt Murray and rookie Mackenzie Blackwood. Murray, 19, signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the off-season. He stopped all 38 shots he faced as his Soo Greyhounds defeated the Barrie Colts 1-0 and was named the game's first star. Blackwood was almost perfect as well making 28 of 29 saves and earning second star honors.

Murray currently leads all OHL goalies with a 1.61 GAA and a .945 save percentage. He also owns a record of 6 wins, 1 loss and 1 OT loss to date and is a big reason the Hounds have the best winning percentage in the Western Conference.

Blackwood has played so well and shows so much promise that the Colts elected to trade their veteran goalie anointing Blackwood the starter. The 17 year old will only be NHL draft eligible in 2015.

Murray and Blackwood share more than a bright future in the game, they both hail from Thunder Bay, Ontario and both stand at 6'4" tall.
