Mike Ouzas, fresh off a tough loss in the Canadian University National Championship game, is joining the Toronto Marlees as their third goalie for the playoffs.
Ouzas' University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds team came up one goal short of repeating as national champions two weeks ago. The end of the season also marked the end of Ouzas' college career. He graduates this spring and finished his exams on Friday. Signing with an AHL team was the perfect graduation present.
Each AHL franchise carries three goalies in the playoffs. Although Mike is not expected to play, it is a foot in the door as well as valuable experience to add to an already solid hockey resume.
With an OHL Goalie of the Year award, a Canadian University National Championship, numerous other award nominations and an University degree under his belt, Mike is ready to explore the possibilty of playing professional hockey.
He starts practicing with the Marlees on Monday.
