Peters Handles Pressure

Justin Peters was under the gun. His coach, Kirk Muller, called him out for a sub par performance Thursday night versus the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had not won in three straight games. Today's game against the Winnepeg Jets was a must-win. Peters had to play well. He delivered.

"Petey" was rock solid helping the Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Jets 3-1 despite being outshot 35-28. In the first period he exploded across the crease to stymie Antropov on a pass backdoor. In the second, he stopped three high quality shots from the slot - two by Winnepeg's top players - Wheeler and Bogosian. He also thwarted two breakaways during the period. In the third, he played positionally sound and controlled his rebounds giving his opponents nothing.

Getting called out was probably deserved; responding to the challenge is what he had to do. Anyone who knows Justin Peters was not surprised.
