Smith Bounces Back With Shutout
After going 11-0 for the month of February and earning the NHL's Player of the Month, Mike Smith struggled to start the month of March. He was 0-3 prior to Saturday's game versus San Jose. Smith, after being given last game off, looked rested and sharp making 42 saves in a 3-0 win. The two points were huge for the Coyotes as they are in a fierce battle for the last playoff spot in the western conference. The shutout was "Smitty's" fifth of the season and 16th of his career. He was the game's first star.
Shutouts seem to be a common theme this week. On Thursday and Friday, Brandon Maxwell stopped 71 shots in two games for two shutouts in two nights. Saturday night saw JP Anderson and Alex Fotinos pitch shutouts in the OHL as well.
