Weekend Player Update
Jordan Binnington had another stellar weekend stopping 103 of 108 shots in three games for a 95.37 save percentage. His team won two and lost one in a shootout for a total of 5 out of a possible 6 points. His Team, the Owen Sound Attack, lead the OHL in winning percentage at 0.786. "Binner" is first in league GAA (1.96) and first in save percentage (.940). He is signed by the St. Louis Blues who drafted him in the third round of the 2011 NHL draft.
In other news, Matt Murray, Pittsburgh Penguins' third round pick from the recent 2012 NHL draft, had a strong game for the Soo Greyhounds today stopping 33 of 35 in a 6-2 win over Guelph. He was the game's Third Star.
Justin Peters and Andy Iles both had shutouts this weekend. Iles, Cornell's starting goaltender, stopped all 19 shots he faced in a 2-0 victory over Colorado College in NCAA Division 1 action Friday and follwed up with a 3-2 win the next night against Colorado. He currently holds a .952 save percentage. Justin Peters made 19 stops today for the shutout in AHL play for the Carolina Hurricanes' farm team in a 6-0 win over Peoria, the AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues.
In other NCAA play, Steven Summerhays got the 5-2 Notre Dame win over Northern Michigan making 22 saves. In 5 games he has a miniscule 1.61 GAA and a terrific .938 save percentage.
